Trans Groups in Ireland

The Irish Trans Group Alliance currently has member groups in Cavan, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.

We also assist families and friends of trans people to create their own groups (see the new group in Shannon below). If you would like to set up a new group, please contact us at info@teni.ie.

BELFAST - SAIL

SAIL stands for: Support, Acceptance, Information and learning SAIL is a voluntary support group for family, friends, carers and individuals living with gender issues.

If you are facing the journey of gender identity you may feel that you are alone. SAIL offers support to families through social meetings where people can meet and talk, share stories and experiences.

CARLOW - TransParentCI

TransParentCI is for parents and family members of transgender people. The group aims to break the silence by offering support and giving a voice to parents and families of transgender children and loved ones. For further details contact Vanessa@teni.ie

CAVAN

In conjunction with our regular weekly meetings, which all LGBT people are welcome to attend, LGBT in Cavan also hold a monthly meeting dedicated to transgender people.This starts on Tuesday 12th July from 7.30pm – 9.30pm. These meetings will provide peer support and information sharing on transgender issues. All are welcome to attend.

CORK

The Cork Transgender Peer Support Group meets on the third Tuesday of every month. The group is organised as autonomous peer support, meaning it is led by the group participants themselves with a facilitator. They offer an open, friendly and safe environment in which to explore questions, seek information and make friends. Confidentiality is respected and assured. Whether you are admitting to questions about your gender identity for the first time, are sure of your feelings and acting on them, or have completed a transition, you are welcome to attend.

DUBLIN

The Dublin Trans Peer Support Group started in April 2005 and is the longest running group in Ireland. The group meets every second Wednesday. It provides an inclusive and supportive environment for those who have been diagnosed with Gender identity Disorder, who feel they have a gender identity issue, and who are exploring their gender role. Our aim is to provide a safe environment for people to feel accepted and accept and explore their own gender identity.

DUBLIN - YOUTH

Individuality is a social group for young trans people and those questioning their gender identity. It is run by BeLonGTo, and meets weekly.

GALWAY

GOSSIP - the Gender Odyssey Support Service and Information Project - meets on the first Friday of every month in Galway, and is open to all trans people who wish to avail of the service. The meetings are welcoming, non-judgemental and supportive. Each month a different topic or workshop is featured, aimed at addressing a wide range of issues and concerns relating to transgender people.
