Yesterday (Wednesday, 10th May) the Gender Recognition (Amendment) Bill 2017, introduced by Senator Fintan Warfield and co-signed by Senator David Norris and Senator Grace O'Sullivan, passed the second stage of the Seanad with full support of the house. Thirteen Senators from all groups represented in the Seanad took the opportunity to urge the Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar, to ensure that young people and non-binary people have the opportunity to be legally recognised as their authentic selves.

Today (Friday March 31st) Senator Fintan Warfield announced the introduction of the Gender Recognition (Amendment) Bill 2017 to mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility. If passed, this Bill would amend the Gender Recognition Act 2015 to ensure meaningful inclusion of young trans and non-binary people.

Today (Thursday 31st March), the Trans Youth Forum report was launched to mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility. This report documents the findings from the first Trans Youth Forum that was held July 15th 2015 and included 55 participants between the ages of 14-25 years of age.

Since the commencement of the Gender Recognition Act, 113 Gender Recognition Certificates have been issued. "Six months after the commencement of the Act we can see that trans people are availing of legal recognition," said TENI Chief Executive Broden Giambrone.

Yesterday (Thursday 3rd December), 380 health professionals attended the first National Transgender Healthcare Conference in Carlow.

Tomorrow (Thursday 3rd December), the HSE will host the first National Transgender Healthcare Conference in Carlow. This event is organised by the HSE in partnership with Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI). Over 350 healthcare professionals are registered to attend the conference.

Today (Tuesday 8th September), marked the first day that trans people can apply to be legally recognised in their true gender. The Department of Social Protection published the application form and have begun accepting applications.

On July 22nd the Gender Recognition Act was signed into law by President Michael D. Higgins.
