Press Release: Gender Recognition (Amendment) Bill 2017 passes Second Stage in the Seanad

Yesterday (Wednesday, 10th May) the Gender Recognition (Amendment) Bill 2017, introduced by Senator Fintan Warfield and co-signed by Senator David Norris and Senator Grace O'Sullivan, passed the second stage of the Seanad with full support of the house. Thirteen Senators from all groups represented in the Seanad took the opportunity to urge the Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar, to ensure that young people and non-binary people have the opportunity to be legally recognised as their authentic selves.

Press Release: New Bill Announced to Mark International Transgender Day of Visibility

Today (Friday March 31st) Senator Fintan Warfield announced the introduction of the Gender Recognition (Amendment) Bill 2017 to mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility. If passed, this Bill would amend the Gender Recognition Act 2015 to ensure meaningful inclusion of young trans and non-binary people.

Letter from TENI Chair

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that our Chief Executive Broden Giambrone is leaving TENI. Broden will officially say goodbye on the 26th of April 2017 to take up a new role. Broden came to Ireland and TENI as a young 28-year-old activist and in his time here, has developed into a distinguished, professional, and visionary leader. During his 6 years with us, Broden has been pivotal in our development, growing TENI from being volunteer lead to a highly professional, structured, and efficient organisation, looked up to by many other trans organisations throughout Europe as the benchmark.

HIV Stigma Study

Did you know that trans women are 49 times more likely to acquire HIV than other adults? Yet transgender women are extremely under-represented in research. TENI recognises the importance of trans people's voices being heard on this issue and supports the research being undertaken through www.hivstigmastudy.ie.
