Trans Groups plan island-wide Balloon Launch to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance
The different support groups throughout the island of Ireland will launch 238 balloons in memory of the 238 trans people who have been murdered this year.
Following on from the success of last years Chinese Lantern launch, the different support groups throughout the island of Ireland will launch 238 balloons symbolising the 238 people murdered in 2013 simply for having a transgender identity. The launches will take place around the island in Cork, Derry, Dublin, Galway and Waterford. Details of each event can be found below.
Cork
Event organised by Cork Trans* Group and UCC LGBT Society

Derry/Londonderry
Event organised by Foccus Trust NI
Guildhall Square – Derry/Londonderry - 7pm Wed Nov 20th
The Mayor of Derry/Londonderry will host a civic and ecumenical act of remembrance, followed by release of balloons
Dublin
Event organised by Dublin Trans Peer Support Group
Balloons will be released in Smithfield Square at 8:30pm Wed Nov 20th
Galway

Candlelit vigil and speeches on Eyre Square to remember those who have been killed as a result of violence and hatred towards trans* people.Followed by release of balloons and social gathering. All Welcome
Waterford
Event organised by Transgender South East
3pm Wed Nov 20th, Waterford Institute of Technology, College Street campus
TENI will have an information stand at WIT as part of their Equality Week activities. balloon Launch will take place outside the College Street campus building at 3pm
