UN monitoring trans rights in Ireland
TENI have submitted a report on violations of trans rights in Ireland to the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations.
The initial report, which was submitted last Friday (9 August 2013) sets forth various violations of the human rights of trans and intersex people in Ireland.
The report highlights problems stemming from lack of recognition (including difficulty in travelling or obtaining passports and access to education), intersex rights, gender-based violence and assignment in detention centres.
The report will be read in the lead-up to the 109th Session of the Human Rights Committee. TENI will submit a further report in September 2013, which will be published and publically available.
