We need your help: complaints about Meteor's Ad
A leading Irish newspaper wants to cover the issues surrounding the transphobic ad run by Meteor.
Prejudice is often most visible in humour, and Meteor's ad is no exception.
For its article, the newspaper is seeking copies of the complaints filed with Meteor or with the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland.
If you have complained, please send a copy of your complaint to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do not have a copy, please send what details you can. We need to receive information by the end of Thursday 23 August.
Thank you for your support. Only by standing together can we ensure our voices are heard.
Earlier this month we provided these details:
Meteor is currently running a TV ad during the olympics that negatively depicts transgender people by promoting stereotypes and encouraging a cheap laugh. Earlier this year Paddy Power also ran a transphobic ad that was met with significant criticism. There is no doubt that advertising like this is detrimental to transgender people and contributes to the stigmatisation and dehumanisation of trans people in Ireland.
See the ad on Youtube here. You can 'dislike' the ad and flag it as inappropriate for the reason 'Hateful or Abusive Content > Abusing Vulnerable Individuals or > Promotes Hatred or Violence'.
If you see this ad on TV and want to make a complaint you can do so with the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland (ASAI): http://www.asai.ie/complain.asp
You can complain directly to Meteor here. You can also make a complaint to Meteor directly by calling 01 4307000 and asking for the Marketing Department.
