Medical Independent: Gay Doctors Ireland slams TD's comments
The Medical Independent recently highlighted the response of Gay Doctors Ireland (GDI) to the statements made by Brian Walsh TD.
GDI Chairman Dr Conor Malone branded Walsh's comments as "offensive", adding that they only serve to further marginalise vulnerable members of society. Malone also dismissed the medical opinions offered by Walsh "preposterous and unethical".
Walsh's medical opinions, which were already at odds with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), were further weakened by WPATH's new Standards of Care, launched on Sunday. The WPATH Standards includes a call to advocacy for professionals to advance "public policies and legal reforms that promote tolerance and equity for gender and sexual diversity".
