SMILY Meeting: Ballina

MONTHLY, SATURDAY 15.00-17.00 | 24 NOV 2012 | BALLINA, CO. MAYO

SMILY group meetings now being held on a monthly basis in the Sligo and Mayo area for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender young people between the ages of 14-23. A safe, friendly and fun social outlet for LGBT young people to express their persona in a non-judgemental environement and meet like minded people. Meetings are held indoors in a safe and secure community building. Activities include team building and other fun stuff to keep entertained!

SMILY's Ballina meeting will be held on Saturday 24 November.

Dublin Trans Peer Group Meeting

The Dublin Trans Peer Support Group started in April 2005 and is the longest running group in Ireland. The group meets every second Wednesday. It provides an inclusive and supportive environment for those who have been diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder, who feel they have a gender identity issue, and who are exploring their gender role. Our aim is to provide a safe environment for people to feel accepted and accept and explore their own gender identity.

Trans Day of Remembrance Lantern Launch

7PM-11PM | 20 NOV 2012 | BELFAST, CORK, DERRY, DUBLIN, WATERFORD

To mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance, groups across the island of Ireland will set off skylanterns to commemorate those who have been killed and to express our solidarity. Launches take place at the following locations:

BELFAST: Lagan Lookout at 7pm - bring your own lanterns (which are available from poundland) there will be some spares but not loads

DERRY: Peace Bridge, Derry/Londonderry 7pm

DUBLIN: Millennium Bridge, 7pm. Please bring a candle.

WATERFORD: John Roberts Plaza on the Quay, 7pm.

CORK: Amphitheatre, University College Cork, 7pm. Followed by Talk on Legal Barriers and Gender Recognition in West Wing Room 6

Transgender Remembrance Ceremony

8PM | 17 NOV 2012 | UNITARIAN CHURCH, ST STEPHEN'S GREEN, DUBLIN

To mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance (20th November 2012), there will be a celebration of trans lives on Saturday 17 November 2012 at the Unitarian Church, St Stephen's Green, Dublin. The event will start at 8pm.

This event is a celebration of Trans lives and a remembrance ceremony for those who have lost their lives as a result of being Trans.

This is a spiritual event (not religious). It is a nice way to remember those who have suffered and to join together in celebration of our lives.

We also have some members of the Dublin Support Group performing on the night. Both Josephine and Sophie and Petra will be singing on the night along with Ide from Running Amach and Josh Johnson.

Cork Trans* Community Forum (TEA)

TEA will carry out a national consultation with the trans* community through 12 Trans* Community Forums in large towns and cities around the country. 

All friends, allies, service providers, and members of the trans* community, including trans* and gender-questioning people, partners, spouses, significant others, and family members are welcome to attend and participate in the Forum.

This broad consultation is intended to reveal the current issues within trans* communities in different parts of the country and seeks to draw out actions that are necessary both locally and nationally to bring about positive change.
