BOOLE 1, UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK
UCC FLAC Society and UCC Law Society are proud to present two of the most knowledgeable people in Ireland on transgender rights; Lydia Foy and Michael Farrell.
Lydia Foy sought to have her gender recognised as female on her birth certificate in 1993 but was refused. What followed was a 21 year battle of fruitless correspondence with state agencies and lengthy litigation until November 2014 when Dr Foy was finally allowed to have her gender recognised on her birth certificate.
Michael Farrell is a FLAC Senior Solicitor and is an Irish civil rights activist, writer and former leader of People’s Democracy. Michael represented Lydia Foy since 2005 on her battle for transgender recognition in Ireland.
