About Us
Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) is a non-profit organisation supporting the transgender community in Ireland in all its variety. We raise awareness about gender diversity through support, education and advocacy and seek to improve conditions and advance equality for all trans people in Ireland. Liaising with a variety of community organisations in Ireland and Europe, we work toward this goal by overseeing support meetings, offering information sessions, workshops and courses, organising events, and much more.
Peer Support Groups
TENI has helped set up and oversees peer-support groups in Dublin, Cork and Waterford. Whether you are admitting to questions about your gender identity for the very first time, are sure of your feelings and acting on them, or you have completed a transition, you are welcome to attend. Meeting with others in a similar situation can be therapeutic, alleviate feelings of isolation, and serve as a resource for reliable information.
TENI is dedicated to support trans people setting up peer support groups throughout Ireland. We are also happy to assist partners, family members and friends of trans people to create their own support groups.
We also schedule a range of social events because - let's admit it, sometimes the best medicine is a good night out! Do you have an idea for a Trans-positive occasion? Let us know, we may be able to help set it up or promote it.
Projects
In addition to support and social events, TENI has a host of projects underway in the fields of support, education and advocacy. Our most important current project is the transgender strand of the Building Sustainable LGBT Communities project.
We have assisted BeLonGTo, a project working with LGBT young people in Ireland, to set up a social group, IndividualiTy, for Transgender Youth. We are working with the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) to advance equality, improve conditions and promote awareness for Trans students and employees on Irish university and college campuses.
Speakers Bureau
The dedicated presenters of our Speakers Bureau offer a multimedia presentation tailored to demystify Transsexuality for a variety of audiences, be they medical professionals, teachers, LGBT groups, or university classes.
This is just the beginning! Ireland is poised on the edge of exciting positive changes for its Transgender community. Join TENI and have a say in our future.
